Game Guidelines for Parents

We hope you have a great time playing our recommended games and interacting with your child.  If something is not working for you, let us know.  We love the opportunity to reflect and adjust our recommendations based on subscriber feedback.  We hope you stay with us and find our newsletter and resources useful for many years to come.  Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are playing our recommended games with your child:

Keep it fun and light.  If a child doesn't want to play right when you want to, back off from it and come back to it another time.

Learning is a journey.  Focus on being present with your child and tuning in to what is going on in their minds right now.  It is likely that your child will not master the games right away, and we as parents need to respect our children's development at their own pace.  By tuning in to your child, you can notice their progress and watch them develop understanding over time.

Slow and steady.  Children thrive on consistent routines, and this is especially true in a learning environment.  We recommend playing 3-4 times each week.  Each session should last about 10 minutes.  Rather than trying to play for 30 minutes at a time even if you think your child can handle it, it would be better stop playing while your child is still interested and having fun.

Resist the temptation to "teach" your child how to get the correct answers.  Children need to observe patterns and play repeatedly before coming to a deep understanding of a concept.

You know your child and your parenting style best.  These games are simple, and there is very little "winning" or "losing" involved.  If more competition works for your family, or if you need some sort of incentive in order to get your child to play, find the way that works for your family.
